Statement by
GOVERNOR CHARLIE CRIST
Regarding the Beginning of Hispanic Heritage Month on September 15th
“Throughout the coming weeks, I join all Floridians in paying tribute to the extraordinary contributions and achievements made by our state’s Hispanic community. Through their hard work, sound leadership and unique cultures, Hispanic Americans have contributed to the vitality and strength of our state and our nation. Florida is fortunate to benefit from a vibrant Hispanic heritage that plays an integral role in the enriching of our society and in the growing of our economy.
“The accomplishments made by Hispanic Americans serve as inspiration to all who seek freedom, opportunity and a new beginning for themselves and their children. Their dream is the American dream. Just as my own grandfather came to this country from Cyprus to build a better life – relying on his fortitude and optimism – Hispanic Americans have, for generations, pursued the same dream. Their perseverance is an illustration of what makes this country great, and I am honored to recognize their triumphs.
“I am also proud to announce the launch of a new Web site, www.floridahispanicheritage.com. I encourage all Floridians to use this resource to learn more about Florida’s rich cultural heritage and the important contributions that Hispanic Americans have made, and continue making, to the success of our great state and country.”
